Less hours at work, Michigan raising income tax, and having mostly saved money towards Unoa Zero since July I'm going to have to pass on two of the dolls I've really been wanting.
I've loved Jenn's Fei for the LONGEST and I wish I could snatch him up since she's taken the dive to sell him. But I don't have 250 to spend on his head, even if I do pass on buying the blythe I wanted I still don't think I'd have enough. I went from not being able to get an off day if I wanted to... to getting 3 in a row this week. And because all of this horrible tax business in Michigan being effective immediately I'm going to feel the hit on my very next check. I already get at least 1/3 of my measly checks taken out ever bi-weekly payday. I don't even know if I'll be getting the $172 left I need to have all the money for my Unoa Zero, let alone enough to even get the blythe I want.
Also it seems the other blythe I want (Princess à la Mode) is about 400 dollar at least on the second hand market. As much as I love PAM, I don't ever want to pay as much as a ball jointed doll for a blythe! (I mean she's not even a vintage Kenner blythe). I love her hair color, style and her default outfits.
I don't know anyone who customizes blythe dolls and I don't really want to crack into it myself (although truth be told compared to bjd faceups it looks simple enough to customize a blythe). Re-reooting seems like a pain and I don't know anything about it, from where to buy the hair or tools or even where to start. I just want to buy them as-is and enjoy them as they are but these prices make it very hard for me. I might have to do some research.
Also, Unoa Zero results. The paper actually says that the winners could be announced *anytime* between now and the middle of the month. I probably would've noticed this had I chose to believe it myself ;~; at least I'm thinking I will definitely have ALL the money I need for her by then. Times like this I really envy those with credit cards and nice jobs that buy dolls whenever the opportunity arise. But then I doubt I'd love them as much as I do.
Unfortunately as well, I just noticed I started the month on a total emo note! ORZ

Is anyone familiar with Lynsey of Cross Pistols Aesthetics? I've been using (and have been very happy with) Gen of EngelMech's work, its cheaper (65 for cross pistols, 40 for engelmech), the waiting list is shorter (10 people currently in cross pistols' "in progress" slots and I'm 7th in line in the reservation slots and Gen just lets me send my doll heads in to her anytime) and not to mention that Gen is stateside and Lynsey lives in the UK. Should I wait and send my airbrush tanned Kill-U sp to Lynsey since she does use an airbrush and can probably touch him up in case she messes up, and some of the tan comes off? Gen doesn't do airbrush faceup, but if she did I don't think I'd have any doubts and send all my dolls to her. Regardless of the fact if I send my Kill-U to her, I'll probably send her my Seimei head if don't have any dolls heads that need to be done when my turn hits
I don't know... I just feel like all my Unoas get all the playtime (which is because they have the most clothes and new faceups of course). I'll probably end up waiting but I'll rant all the same. I'm probably only thinking about this because I want to send another doll off to get a faceup ASAP and the only choices are my pipos baha, seimei and my lusis yawn (which would have to wait because my lusis isn't here yet for them to match)
Waiting for:
- Gen to receive my unoa sist head
- Jenn to receive and ship off the mio group order
- Jenn to receive her SD Cristal and send me the HG glass eyes
- Unoa Lusis from the last 1.5 girl preorder
- Lottery Results for tier 1 (.. and 2... and 3) for the Unoa Zero.
- LeeKe world group order to be mailed off.
- Reiji to send me the invoice for the magazines I ordered from him.
- Glass eye group order (about 4 pairs for myself)
- Pearlized wings from Moonueng.
- 43cm Narae (still can't decide on skin tone)
The picture is just for good measure, and anti-text only.
I rant enough as it is but..
Ebay Rant! Someone on ebay is already trying to sell the new Unoa Quluts Lights made by Sekiguchi (the company famouse for Momoko dolls), even though they are still going through preorder now. (Obviously no doll in hand!) The person does have a very reputable sounding 100% positive feedback. But the price, without shipping is 250 dollars on the buy-it-now.
The doll is listed as 12,000 (without tax) yen on the Sekiguchi site.
12,000 Japanese yen = (approximately) 104.49600 U.S. dollars
You're not just paying for one doll, but 2 and then some for the price of one! Which is also more expensive than the resin unoa lights! The Sekiguchi version is made of Vinyl!
So, the 3 tier preorder is like so:
- Send in postcard by first deadline (the 28th) and if there are more than 150 people who send it in, the preorder becomes a lottery.
- If you lose the first time you are automatically entered into the 2nd time, lose the 2nd time you're automatically entered into the third time.
- Since there are 150 max that will be given out each time, then there are 150+150+150 for the Dollybird 9 Unons, and 50 more if you include the Hobby Japan magazine lottery/preorder dolls (in which the winners for that will be announced on the 11th) meaning there will be 500 total Unoa Quluts Zero dolls in the world till whenever the next preorder comes to be.
My postcard is being mailed off tomorrow. But I have no idea how much buzz this doll is getting in Japan. Also since its a lottery Crescent Shop will not be handling it and only people who live in Japan or know someone trustworthy in Japan will have a chance. I wonder how many people there are who want one, and have the money for it, and have the connections/means to order one.
The postcard is not in simple Japanese. It asks questions. Basic things such as "what 3 articles did you like the most", "what kind of doll requests do you have for us?" and if you have any opinions on the magazine, and the spaces are big enough for a few sentences so I wouldn't take my chances on leaving them blank. I really had to make up some things for Reiji to fill in (which he has to translate to Japanese and then write it onto the postcard), but at least I'll definitely get my card in before the deadline. So I have 3 chances to win, and I'm done saving, and thats all I can really be confident about for now!
I finally got around to doing the "what-I-want-Frei's-faceup-to-look-like" private message to Gen. Usually I do some long formal write-up but I just haven't felt up to it and I only have a vague idea of what I want anyway. "Dark dramatic eyes and light colored lip" is just about it. I did have picture examples but really.. I didn't really ask for much. My B-el faceplates should be here by Tuesday by my calculations.. if not then definitely before Friday. I'm not really ready in terms of eyes and wigs but I'm still excited all the same.
According to one of the few Japanese residents on DOA the Dollybird 9 "preorder" is in actuality a LOTTERY.
A 3 Tier lottery at that. There are 3 deadline dates, the first being the 28th of this month and depending on which one you send the postcard (included in the magazine) in, the more or less chances you get. 3 if you send your card in the first deadline, 2 if you send it in before next months deadline and 1 if you send it by the last deadline.
I am not a lucky person. I lost the last unoa related lottery I was in, and I got the email saying I lost 2 days after my birthday. And what this lottery says to me is: "You're going to hold onto that money like a sheep, you will loose every lottery tier, you will then proceed to spend twice as much getting her on yahoo japan auctions, your family will commit you to a mental institution"
I am not a happy camper.
Also, someone else was relying on my to help him get the doll, if it was a preorder that was completely doable but now that its a lottery I'm in a bind! I only have one trustworthy Japanese friend, and the one piece of info that hasn't been posted is if there is a limit to household which no doubt there probably is.
I didn't get around to posting as much as I wanted to last night, I still have to convert the eyelash creation tutorial and the faceup tutorial to vpx/lj posts and also I need to do the writeup on how I want my L-bi head to look for Gen, since his head should be getting to her on Monday at the latest.
But yeah, pretty pictures! Boudoir's Coco and Kiki pictures from Voleur de Rose!
More info is popping up about the new vinyl unoa lights, there is even a DOA thread about them even though that goes against everything the mods claim is a ball jointed doll. Not that I expect them to squash or even ban them seeing as I even though the Unoa Zero was pushing the limits on what they think a bjd is (as its more of a figure than a doll when it comes to putting her together). Also some misinformed people seem to think that the Unoa Lights will be up for preorder in Dollybird 9 although there is no evidence to support it and even the publisher notes on amazon.co.jp say nothing about them. Maybe they're just throwing info out so someone will either confirm or deny it?
I-doloid Vista Core Mook (magazine-book) 330
price 2500 yen (tax include)
went for sale on August 24th 2007
Words on the front:
60cmドールたちの狂想曲 (60cm dolls' rhapsody)
This magazine has a gravure (photo shoot) of the U-noa Quluts Zero Latea/Marion, about a 7 page spread from what I hear from a source that won't even buy the magazine. (The magazine consists mostly of love dolls and sex toys and things of that sort).
I will more than likely be placing an order for this magazine this weekend when I preorder Dollybird 9. Regardless of the fact that I have no use for the rest of the magazine I already bought 2 issues of Hobby Japan for the same reason, Unon info.
On Gentarou Araki's blog he says something to the effect that he wants people to buy his dolls and make them pretty, not necessarily the image he gives them but 'pretty'. I got the picture of the cover from his journal but the post the image was in context of was more about how he felt about the dolls in an emotion standpoint and not about the magazine, it was totally non-commercial more like from a hobbyist. I'm glad that his creations are more to him than dollar signs.
The translation for the assembly instructions has been going along slowly. And Reiji is still working on the faceup tutorial. He was quick with the eyelashes preparation/creation tutorial but I'm guessing the faceup tutorial has more jargon/technical terms.
I found someone else to do my B-el and B-el madoromi/dozing faceplates, DOA user YamamuraTatsuya, after I go through the basics with her and get everything settled I'll be sending them off, sadly before my Sist gets done but what can I do about that really?
Seems like most of my paycheck will be going towards doll faceups. I'll be putting 50 aside for Aish to get done so whenever I get the PM from Lune I can send her off and not have to wait till my next payday. Then I'll also be shipping off 2 doll heads probably within a few days depending on how the correspondence goes.
I'm a bit disheartened already with the ebay user I bought August's issue of Hobby Japan magazine from. I used buy it now and paid immediately after DAYS ago and I just got a shipping notice 5 minutes ago that isn't even active yet (meaning it was probably shipped today). I expected to be getting it by today! When I sold things on ebay I shipped that stuff off as soon as people paid for it, not everyone is like that but still its not even a big package its just a rather thick magazine. I'm more peeved about it because its an ebay account of an actual brick-and-mortar store, not just some random person. Be more professional please!
I'm also still waiting for a wig and eyes from DOA user Aya Dear, which should be getting to me soon. Also waiting for the sweater I bought from Mio that I joined a group order to get. I ordered that sweater before I ordered the u-noa option parts which I got a long time ago. Mio is in very high demand and had tons of huge group orders (there were more than 12 people that I know of that were in the same order as I was..) so I was expecting a wait and there probably will still be one. Also waiting for the limited edition HG glass eyes that come with SD13 Cristal that I bought from Jenn which should also take a while.
I need to buy some gundam markers, and some water transfer film along with photo emulsion liquids to screen print with. I'm going to try to give Ivoine a tattoo on his back so I can use as an example so I can open up an aesthetics shop. I want to be able to do tattooing on dolls, so at least I'll have income to pay for the odds and ends such as eyes and wigs and the occasional faceup. It would be nice if they paid for themselves but I'm not pushing it lol. Also I need to finish saving at least 800 for Hrist (U-noa Zero Marion) and then work on getting Jomi his own body, Aish a mini supia body, or on Caelia the 43cm Narae I wanted long before the u-noa bug hit me. But then I still haven't settled on a skin tone for her...
